Dedert Corporation Installs Spray Dryer at ADM’s New Plant in China

dedert_ps_2_r1.jpgDedert Corporation, specialists in drying and evaporation technology worldwide, has supported Archer Daniels Midland’s (ADM) expansion of food- and feed-ingredient production in China with the installation of a spray dryer at their new plant in Tianjin.

The plant will produce a specialty food ingredient, a soluble dietary fiber, sold and marketed through an ADM/Matsutani joint venture. It was opened last week by ADM CEO Juan Luciano, government officials and representatives from Matsutani Chemical Industry Co., Ltd.

The spray dryer features Dedert’s patented magnetic bearing rotary atomizer technology and a Simatek high-efficiency, compact dust filter. The project was managed through Dedert’s office in Shanghai, China, opened in 2012, in collaboration with Dedert headquarters in Chicago, USA.

Guy Lonergan, President Dedert, says, “We continue to leverage our global expertise and commitment to excellence to help our customers optimize their business and drive operational efficiencies at production facilities. We have a strong relationship with ADM and were delighted to provide our innovative technology for this exciting project.”

The product enables food and beverage manufacturers to increase the fiber content of their products without impacting flavor, color or viscosity. With the global market for soluble dietary fiber growing at an annual rate of 13 percent, the Tianjin plant’s production capacity of 15,000 metric tons per year will help address increasing demand for value-added food-ingredients and animal-nutrition products.

Dedert Corporation awarded US Patent for Rotary Atomizer

Chicago, IL, February 17, 2015 - Dedert Corporation, specialists in drying and evaporation technology worldwide, today announced the issuance of Patent US 8,931,710 B2, entitled “Rotary Atomizer Having Electro Magnetic Bearings and a Permanent Magnet Rotor”, by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The Dedert rotary atomizer is at the heart of Dedert’s range of spray dryers and is built around permanent magnetic motor and magnetic bearing technology. The innovative design provides unparalleled flexibility in a compact robust mechanical design, and offers lower maintenance and higher reliability over conventional rotary atomizer technology. Its key features include a direct-drive design with only one moving part, a compact high efficiency permanent magnetic motor up to 250kW (330hp), non-contact active magnetic bearings requiring no lubrication, an extremely high disc peripheral speed of 900fps, and PLC-based control and monitoring systems.

“This development, lead by inventor Claude Bazergui, has been, and will continue to be, the cornerstone of our company’s technology in the spray drying industry.” says Guy Lonergan, President, Dedert. “It demonstrates our strong commitment to innovation and the investment and contribution we have made in advancing atomizer technology.”

Although Dedert can supply spray dryers with conventional nozzle atomization, there are several advantages of rotary versus nozzle atomization: product particle size can be easily adjusted via disc speed control; particle size distribution is more uniform; rotary atomization eliminates the need for a high pressure feed pump, piping and multiple nozzles; and a rotary atomizer can handle products with higher solids and viscosity.

Dedert atomizers can also be adapted to existing installations to increase spray dryer capacity and greatly reduce maintenance costs. Dedert is well placed to offer spray dryer atomizer replacement, retrofits, upgrades and audits and offers a review of existing spray dryer performance.
